Welcome to My World: A Celebration of Finney Culture & Heritage is coming February 13 – 17! The week is a celebration of the many, many cultures represented by Finney students, families, teachers, and staff. We will also recognize several countries our international students travel from to study here at our school: China, Korea, Italy, Vietnam, and Panama.
A student committee is busy planning events for the entire Welcome to My World Week, and hope that all students will participate in some way. Every day, students will be greeted in homeroom with morning announcements, including the school Scripture verse recited in another language; Scriptures will be shared in Italian, Chinese, Korean, Nepalese, and Spanish. Cultural artwork created by our international students will be displayed throughout the school. In addition, a large wall map with the headline, “Where in the World Are You From?” will be hung in the main hallway near the cafeteria, and students may place a sticker on the map representing their home country.
Here are some other special events planned throughout the Welcome to My World Week:
- Tuesday is Random Act of Kindness Day (Valentine’s Day). Students will be greeted in homeroom with a sweet treat and a card listing ideas on how they can practice a “random act of kindness” that day.
- Friday, an international food tasting table will be set up during high school lunch in the cafeteria. Students may bring exotic and cultural foods from their own countries, and try new ones.
- Thursday, students are encouraged to come to school dressed in a costume/outfit representing their own culture or a culture they admire. A special Welcome to My World Chapel for the middle and high schools, will also be held Periods 7 & 8. The chapel, planned by the international student committee, will include worship in other languages, skits, and testimonies shared by our international students. Parents are encouraged to come to chapel, and celebrate our cultural heritages!
