Fine Arts

The Fine Arts at the Charles Finney School includes studies in visual arts, instrumental and vocal music, and theater arts.

Visual Arts

One of Finney’s strengths is its award winning visual arts program.  Finney students have won 6 national awards and 137+ regional awards from the prestigious Scholastic Art Awards, in competition with most public and private schools.  We offer an extensive art major at the high school level including Studio in Art, Drawing and Painting, Advanced Drawing and Painting, Photography, Computer Graphics as well as AP Studio Art.  Click here to view the photos of Finney students who won Scholastic Art Awards.

Instrumental and Vocal Music

Our goal is to teach about music in all of its variety, complexity, and depth, within the context of God the Creator, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit and have fun doing it!  The programs here have been developed based on New York State and National Music Standards for Education, found on the page listed in the toolbar.  By doing this, students will experience a well-rounded, in-depth, and thorough music education during their time here at Finney.

Some of the opportunities available for Finney students include the following courses offered at each age level: choral ensembles, instrumental ensembles, academic general music classes, and musicals.  Students also have the opportunity to take private lessons as well as attend county and state solo competitions and ensemble performances.  Also, chapel takes place once a week and uses students from the High School Choir/Worship Class to lead worship for their peers.

Theater Arts

Each year, the high school produces a spring musical. Previous play productions include Hamlet, Our Town, Cheaper by the Dozen, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Finney’s repertoire of musicals includes Annie, Frog & Toad, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, Godspell, Cinderella, The King and I, West Side Story and Bye Bye Birdie.
